Here is a quick list of my most anticipated releases. I’ve linked to the publishers pages where I can and all of the synopses are taken from Goodreads.
The Young Elites by Marie Lu – Release Date: October 7th 2014
I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside.
Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.
Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.
Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen.
Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.
It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt.
I haven’t yet read Marie Lu’s Legend series though I do own the first book and I’m really looking forward to reading it. I’ve heard such great things about Marie Lu’s writing style and this plot sounds so intriguing that I can’t wait to pick up a copy when it comes out!
Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch – Release Date: October 14th 2014
Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.
Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.
So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own
This synopsis kind of reminds me of Shadow and Bone but only a little. It sounds really interesting though and I’m always interested in reading a new YA Fantasy book, especially from a new author.
Talon by Julie Kagawa – Release Date: October 28th 2014
Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they’re positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.
Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.
Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon’s newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey: and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember’s bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him: and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.
Dragons…Do I really have to say more? I love books with dragons in (I started reading Seraphina recently) and I can’t wait to get my hands on this one. I’ve been wanting to read the Blood of Eden series by Julie Kagawa for a while so hopefully if I enjoy Talon I’ll get around to picking them up. Also, look at that cover! It’s beautiful.
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard – Release Date: March 26th 2015
The poverty stricken Reds are commoners, living under the rule of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers.
To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from The Stilts, it looks like nothing will ever change.
Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace, at the centre of those she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control.
But power is a dangerous game. And in this world divided by blood, who will win?
I’ve heard such good things about this book from people who’ve read ARC’s and it looks so intriguing. I love reading about different power structures, especially in epic/high fantasy so I’m really interested in the Red/Silver concept. Again, I love my fantasy books and this looks like a perfect match for me.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas – Release Date: May 5th 2015
When nineteen-year-old Feyre plucks a forbidden rose from the ground, a wolfish creature arrives to punish her for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from stories, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin, a High Lord of the faeries. And as she learns more about him, her feelings for Tamlin transform from hostility to a fiery passion. But the threats against the faerie lands are growing, and Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse . . . or lose Tamlin forever.
I’ve read Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas and really enjoyed it and I plan on starting Crown of Midnight soon so I’m really excited that Sarah J. Mass is writing another YA Fantasy series. I’m also excited about the fact that it’s based off of a fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast, as I like reading books based off of fairy tales and myths. I recently read Cinder and Scarlet by Marissa Meyer and loved them both so I hope A Court of Thorns and Roses captures the essence of the original fairy tale as well as they did. Also I can’t wait to see the final covers because I love the covers in the Throne of Glass series.
Feel free to let me know any of your anticipated releases in the comments! 🙂
