30 Day Reading Challenge – Day 30

Day 30 – Favourite book

Why did they save the hardest question for the last day. I really can’t answer this because it’s really hard, my favourite book tends to change a lot. A few of my favourite books are Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, Northern Lights by Philip Pullman, More Than This by Patrick Ness and The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum but there are so many others. I’m really sad this is the last day of the challenge but it was really fun. 🙂

30 Day Reading Challenge – Day 29

Day 29 – A book everybody hated but you liked

I can’t think of any at all so I checked Goodreads and a book I liked that others didn’t seem to is The Farm by Tom Rob Smith. I really liked this book, it was a fast paced and gripping thriller that was unlike any other thriller I have read. I gave it 4 stars (more of a 4.5) but the average rating on Goodreads is 3.55 so I guess other people didn’t. 🙂

30 Day Reading Challenge – Day 26

Day 26 – A book that changed your opinion about something

I really can’t think of any at all. I’ve read a lot of books that have made me think about things or that have influenced me but not any that have changed my opinion on a particular subject. Books that I’ve found really thought-provoking are The Equality Illusion by Kat Banyard and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot (which I’m still reading).

The Equality Illusion made me really think about modern-day sexism and casual misogyny in our society and it reaffirmed my own beliefs. It was really compelling how the beginning of each chapter gave you a small look into the lives of different women in a variety of situations who were dealing with sexism. It was a really interesting read.

I am still reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (which I stopped reading when I was in a reading slump a while ago) and it really made me think about racism and bodily autonomy especially how the actions in the book have influenced our modern-day society and Henrietta’s family’s lives. I’m going to continue reading this soon hopefully.

They are both really intriguing and amazing books and I’d recommend picking them both up.

30 Day Reading Challenge – Day 25

Day 25 – Favourite book you read in school

We didn’t actually read too many assigned books in school other than the typical GCSE books and out of the ones we had to read I’d have to choose Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. We read it so many times that I think it’s the only option. It was a really good book and recently my views on some of the characters have changed and I have a new perspective on how I view the book and I may have to read it again soon in a new light. It’s also a really controversial book and I completely understand why and I remember discussing the underlying problems in the book during my class. It’s a very interesting read though and I’d definitely recommend it to anybody interested in reading some of Steinbeck’s work.

30 Day Reading Challenge – Day 24

Day 24 – A book you wish more people would’ve read

I have chosen The Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer. I picked this book up on a whim as part of a deal and it was absolutely amazing. It isn’t a completely unknown book but it’s not as well-known as others. This book is an emotional and moving story that I couldn’t put down. It made me cry and laugh and just feel so many conflicting emotions at once and at the end of it I was emotionally drained. I think this is one of those books you should go in knowing very little about it but I’d definitely recommend it. (It may be triggering for some people so I’d check beforehand.)

30 Day Reading Challenge – Day 23

Day 23 – Your guilty pleasure

I don’t really have one anymore but I used to be absolutely obsessed with the Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire Mysteries books. They were just really entertaining when I was in my paranormal romance phase 🙈. I don’t think I’ll ever read them again because they were just kinda problematic/cliché and I’m not really into that genre anymore. I don’t actually remember finishing the series and I only got to season 4 of the TV show so I’m not completely sure what happened at the end.

30 Day Reading Challenge – Day 22

Day 22 – Book you’re currently reading

I am currently reading Maurice by E. M. Forster and even though I’m only on chapter 3 it’s very interesting so far and I’m looking forward to reading more. After I’ve finished I’m hoping to watch the film adaptation with James Wilby, Hugh Grant and Rupert Graves. 🙂

(This is the cover I own and I really like it!)
