WWW Wednesday is a weekly book meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. This meme involves answering three questions. What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’re going to read next? It’s just a little update to let you know what I’m reading this month and I hope you enjoy!

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading Uprooted by Naomi Novik as I’ve been in the mood for high fantasy romance sort of book  after reading Wintersong by S. Jae Jones and Stolen Songbird by Danielle Jensen and loving both. I’m around half way through and have been for a few days as I just haven’t had a huge amount of motivation to pick it back up even though I do like it. It’s written really well and I find it really interesting but I’m not sure how I feel about the romance and the middle just isn’t as fast paced as the first half of the book. Still, I really want to finish this soon as I want to see where the Queen/forest storyline is going.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling a few days ago and it was a pretty good book. I’ve only watched Mindy Kaling in The Office (though I really want to watch The Mindy Project) and she’s exactly as I imagined she would be in real life. She’s funny, straight-forward and a really fun writer, I like how blunt she is in her writing and she made me laugh. I liked how each essay or idea is broken up into sections so it’s easy to just read a chunk and then come back to it later.

What do you think you’re going to read next?

I think I might read A Gentleman’s Guide  to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee next as I just got it a few days ago and I really want to read it. It’s a YA historical road trip style novel with a m/m romance and I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about it and everybody whose read it seems to love it. I’m honestly so excited to read this book!

Thanks for reading! 🙂

WWW Wednesday is a weekly book meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. This meme involves answering three questions. What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’re going to read next? I figured I’d just give a quick reading update despite my semi-hiatus as I’ve kind of missed posting about books.

What are you currently reading?

I’m reading a few books at the moment but the one I’m primarily focusing on and really enjoying is Defender by G. X. Todd. It’s set in a post-apocalyptic world where one day voices appeared in the heads of the majority of the population driving them to do terrible things which lead to collapse of society and the world as we know it. Defender focuses on our two protagonists Pilgrim and Lacey and switches between their POV’s. Pilgrim is a man who has been hardened by the world around him and stays far away from people due to the voice in his head until he meets Lacey on the side of the road. Lacey has been pretty much sheltered by her grandmother from what has happened in the world and has lived a relatively safe life since the start of the apocalypse. She only ventures out of the safe haven of her farm house once her grandmother dies which then leads to her meeting Pilgrim when she looks for somebody to give her a ride to find her sister. I’m around half way through and it’s really interesting so far, it’s been pulling me out of my reading slump. The plot is fast paced and so fun to read and I can’t wait to find out how the story unfolds. A quick disclaimer though, I was sent my copy of the book unsolicited from the publisher though obviously this won’t change my opinion. If this does sound interesting to you though Defender comes out in January 2017 and so far I definitely recommend checking it out. My review should be out late December/early January.  (TW – This book contains graphic violence and rape. Feel free to ask if you’d like to know about anymore possible triggers.)

What did you recently finish reading?

I wouldn’t say I recently finished this but the last book I was able to finish was 172 Hours on the Moon by Johan Harstad. I gave this four stars and it was a pretty fun, quick read. It’s a science fiction book that centres around a group of teenagers that win a trip to the moon but pretty soon it’s revealed not all is what it seems. I liked it well enough but I thought the ending seemed a bit rushed and didn’t really live up to my expectations. It also contains little photos and articles which I found really added to my reading experience.

What do you think you’re going to read next?

I’m not exactly sure what to read next but I know I want to read a stand alone as I’m falling behind on a lot of series. I think I might read Fingersmith by Sarah Waters because I’ve been wanting to read it for ages and even though I’ve been spoiled for the plot twist it seems like a really great book. Sarah Waters is supposed to be an amazing writer so I can”t wait to finally read one of her books and hopefully have a new author to read as I own all of her books.

Thanks for reading! 🙂

WWW Wednesday is a weekly book meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. This meme involves answering three questions. What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’re going to read next? This is just a quick filler post as I skipped my September wrap up because the books I read were all part of a series (the Peter Grant series) and I’m going to do a full series review once I’ve fully caught up. Sorry for the lack of posts but hopefully some more will be coming up soon!

What are you currently reading?

I’ve just started Faithful Place by Tana French and it’s pretty good so far. It’s the third book in the ‘Dublin Murder Squad’ series and focuses on Frank who is forced to return to his home town when the suitcase of his childhood sweetheart who left over twenty years ago turns up in the abandoned house they used to meet up in. It’s really interesting so far and I’m looking forward to the ‘big reveal’ as I do with all of Tana French’s books as she is such an amazing writer.

What did you recently finish reading?

I recently read The Girl with All the Gifts by M. R. Carey and it was phenomenal! I gave it 5 stars and I can’t wait to see the film adaptation next week. It’s a post apocalyptic thriller that focuses on a little girl who is locked up everyday and night in a cell and only brought out for lessons and food whilst in restraints. It’s such an interesting premise and it lived up all of the hype, I loved it. I’ll be posting more in my wrap up so if you’d like to know more then watch out for that at the end of the month.

What do you think you’re going to read next?

I think I’ll read The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins next as like with TGWATG I want to see the film adaptation soon. I’ve tried to avoid spoilers so I only know vaguely what it’s about, I know it involves a divorced woman who whilst traveling on a train witnesses a crime but that’s pretty much it. I can’t wait to read it and I really hope I like it as much as everybody else seems to.

Thanks for reading! 🙂

What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Whispers Underground by Ben Aaronovitch. I picked up the first three books in the Peter Grant series a few weeks ago in a charity shop as I’d heard really good things and I’m so glad I did. Whispers Underground is the third book in the series and I’m loving it so far and I can’t wait to read the rest of the books to see how the story progresses. I’ll talk more about this series in my wrap up so if you’re interested in my thoughts check that out at the end of September!

What did you recently finish reading?

I recently finished Moon Over Soho by Ben Aaronovitch which is the second book in the Peter Grant series. Again I really liked it but not as much as I liked the first book to be honest, the plot wasn’t quite as interesting to me personally. It was still a pretty good book though and made me want to continue on with the series, especially with how it left off.

What do you think you’re going to read next?

I’ve ordered but don’t yet have the fourth book in the Peter Grant series so until then I think I might read An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir as I own the first two books in that series and haven’t started it yet. I love epic fantasy novels so I expect I’m going to love this just as much as everybody else seems to!

Thanks for reading! 🙂

WWW Wednesday/July Wrap Up

WWW Wednesday is a weekly book meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. This meme involves answering three questions. What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’re going to read next? I’ve also decided to sorta combine this post with my monthly wrap up as I was only able to read one book last month.

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading three books at the moment, The Girls by Emma Cline, Timeless by Gail Carriger and Monstress by Marjorie M. Liu. I’m around halfway through all of these so I’ll most likely review all of these in my August Wrap Up.

What did you recently finish reading?

I recently finished Girl Hearts Girl by Lucy Sutcliffe. It was the only book I read last month and I posted a review as part of a book tour here which I’m also counting as my monthly wrap up review.

girl hearts girls

What do you think you’re going to read next?

I might read either Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger (as I’ll have finished the Parasol Protectorate series by then) or DC Bombshells Volume 1 as I really want to get back into reading comic books again and I love the art style from what I’ve seen of DC Bombshells already. I also have a few other books I’d like to read this month but I may make these two priority.

Thanks for reading! 🙂

What are you currently reading?

heartlessI’m currently reading Heartless by Gail Carriger and really enjoying it! This series has been great so far and I’m enjoying the character progression and plot twists that come with each installment. I’m sad that I only have one more after this book before the end of this particular series but I’m excited to read the spin off series that Gail Carriger has released as well as her books are just so much fun.

What did you recently finish reading?

in order to liveBefore Heartless I read In Order to Live by Yeonmi Park and it was absolutely fascinating. It’s an autobiography written by a survivor from North Korea  and she tells the story of her life within North Korea and the horrors she faces even after she manages to escape. It’s really heartbreaking but definitely a must read as it really opened my eyes to the suffering that is going on in North Korea which I didn’t know a huge amount about before.

What do you think you’re going to read next?

timelessI’m probably going to read Timeless by Gail Carriger so that I can finish the Parasol Protecorate series as Carriger always leaves the previous book on a suspenseful note that has me dying to read the next book. I may however read another book aswell to give myself a break from the paranormal fantasy genre and instead read Tell Me Again How A Crush Should Feel by Sara Farizan.

Thanks for reading! 🙂

What are you currently reading?

I’m in a bit of reading slump at the moment if I’m being honest so I’ve haven’t been reading as much I’d like to. I have however started A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab and I’m really enjoying it so far, it’s unlike a lot of other fantasy novels I’ve read. I also recieved a copy of the sequel, A Gathering of Shadows in the post so I can’t wait to read that too. I’ve also read a little bit of Mercury Striking by Rebecca Zanetti which is intriguing so far – I haven’t read a Romance/Apocolyptic crossover before so I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes.

What did you recently finish reading?

I recently finished Stalking Darkness by Lynn Flewelling and Captive Prince by C. S. Pacat. I gave them both 5 stars. Stalking Darkness was a great sequel to an amazing first novel (my review is here) so I’m excited to continue with the series.  I also love Captive Prince. It was a really interesting, drama-filled read and I’m looking forward to seeing how the plot develops in the future books.

What do you think you’re going to read next?

I’m either going to start reading City of Bones by Cassandra Clare or The Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb. City of Bones will be a reread for me as I finally want to finish the series (I started reading the series when only 3 were out) and then watch the show. The Dragon Keeper is the next book I have to read in the Realm of the Elderlings series so I can’t wait to get back into this world as I love everything I’ve read by her so far. I can’t wait to read both of these!

Thanks for reading! 🙂

luck in the shadowsWhat are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading Luck in the Shadows by Lynn Flewelling and whilst I’m still only a little bit into it I am really enjoying it. I can’t wait to see where the story and the series develops.

fools fateWhat did you recently finish reading?

I recently finished Fool’s Fate by Robin Hobb and I gave it 4/4.5 stars. This is the first Fitz and Fool book I’ve given less than 5 stars and the main reason was because of the ending. It just felt a little off and I don’t think it was the right fit for the story. I kinda saw it as a bit of a cop out.

the dragon keeperWhat do you think you’re going to read next?

I’ll probably read Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb when it arrives as I ordered it a few days ago. I’m interested to see how the dragon storyline continues and to see what new characters are introduced. (I also really want to read these so I can get back to the Fitz and the Fool storyline too.)

Feel free to link me to your WWW Wednesday posts in the comments and let me know your thoughts on the books I’ve chosen. 🙂

What did you recently finish reading?

I recently Carol by Patricia Highsmith as I went to see the film a few days ago and I LOVED them both. It’s such a lovely story and Patricia Highsmith’s writing is different from anything I’ve read before.

What do you think you’re going to read next?

Hopefully either Fool’s Errand by Robin Hobb or The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons. I really want to continue the Realm of the Elderlings ‘series’ but I may start The Bronze Horseman beforehand to have a little break between the series. I’m really far behind on my Winter TBR so hopefully The Bronze Horseman will spur me on to tick some of the others off of my TBR.

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently in between two books, Ship of Destiny by Robin Hobb and My True Love Gave to Me. I’m really enjoying them both and hope to finish them before the new year, especially My True Love Gave to Me as I read a few of the short stories last year.

Let me know in the comments what you’re reading or leave a link to your WWW Wednesday! 🙂

What are you currently reading?

Young ElitesI’m currently reading The Young Elites by Marie Lu that I started around the same time as The Martian. It’s a lot darker than I expected and I’m enjoying it. The main protagonist is a lot different from the ‘saviour’ types you usually see in YA fantasy and it’s really refreshing. All in all it’s an interesting book and I’m really glad I gave it a try.

What did you recently finish reading?

The MartianI finished The Martian today and I really liked it, I gave it 4.5 stars. I found it a bit confusing at times because of the frequent scientific explanations (I’m bad at keeping up with that sort of stuff) but the actual plot made up for it. It’s a very gripping book and once I started it I couldn’t stop reading. I definitely recommend giving it a chance if you’ve had any doubts and I can’t wait to see how it’s translated to film.

What do you think you’re going to read next?

Royal AssassinDefinitely Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb, it arrived today and I’ve been wanting to read it since I finished Assassin’s Apprentice last week. Assassin’s Apprentice left off on a really interesting note and I can’t wait to see how Fitz progresses and how his story develops after the events in the last book. I’m so excited to carry on with this series, it’s definitely one of my new favourites.
